Concrete effect poured floor
A Concrete effect floor is extremely popular in modern interiors. Whether you want to create a Scandinavian atmosphere or a Japanese-inspired home, a Concrete effect poured floor combines a bold, natural look with easy maintenance. On this page we explain how to create your own Concrete effect floor and what you should pay attention to.
Suitable substrates for a Concrete effect poured floor
For a Concrete effect floor we use Microcement. This is a one-component floor system that is easy to apply yourself. Microcement adheres to:
- cement screeds
- anhydrite floors
- concrete floors
- levelled floors (both cement- and gypsum-based, if correctly prepared)
Unsuitable substrates
A Concrete effect floor should not be applied directly onto wood, PVC or laminate. These substrates must be fully removed, including all adhesive residues. Repair any cracks or damage first, then level the surface. Keep in mind that any unevenness will remain visible through the concrete effect finish.
Concrete effect floor and underfloor heating
A Concrete effect floor works very well in combination with underfloor heating, provided the correct preparation is followed:
- Are the heating pipes milled into the floor? Fill them first with epoxy, sand or a cement-based mortar.
- Then level the floor.
- Always follow the heating protocol: turn the underfloor heating on full for one day, let it cool down, and bring it back to its normal temperature. This prevents up to 90% of potential cracking.
Concrete effect floor in bathrooms or toilets
Would you like a concrete effect floor in your bathroom or toilet? In our webshop you’ll find our Microcement bathroom floor kit. This complete set contains everything you need to create a waterproof concrete effect floor in wet rooms.
Important: always use this kit in combination with a cement-based levelling compound. Gypsum-based levellers are unsuitable for wet areas, as they absorb moisture and become unstable. With a cement-based leveller and our one-component system, you are guaranteed a durable and waterproof result.

When is the best time to install a concrete-look floor?
Our advice: schedule it during your holiday or a period when you can temporarily stay elsewhere. This allows the floor to be applied and fully cured without disturbance. You’ll return home to a completely new floor, and the coating will have hardened optimally, ensuring a longer lifespan.
Can you do small areas yourself?
Yes, a toilet or hallway is usually easy to do yourself. Bathrooms are different: they require technical knowledge to ensure the floor is finished completely waterproof, especially around the drain and in the wet area.
