Painting plasterboard without plastering
It is possible to paint plasterboard directly without fully plastering it. Always start with EcoPrimer. This ecological primer equalises absorption and ensures proper adhesion. You can then finish with Lime paint, Japandi paint or Concrete effect paint.
Keep in mind: joints will remain visible if the boards are not placed seamlessly.
For a perfectly smooth finish, we recommend fully plastering the plasterboard with a gypsum-based plaster.
Painting plasterboard without priming — is it possible?
No. Priming is always necessary. Plasterboard absorbs strongly and unevenly, which causes stains and poor adhesion. Our EcoPrimer prevents this and creates a stable and even base.
Painting a plasterboard ceiling
A plasterboard ceiling can be finished in two ways:
- For the best result: fully plaster the ceiling first so that all joints disappear and you get a seamless surface.
- Quick solution: prime the boards directly with EcoPrimer and finish with Concrete effect paint, Lime paint or Japandi paint.
Note: joints and minor imperfections will stay visible.
This way, you can choose between a fast option and a perfectly finished ceiling.
Can I apply Microcement or Loam plaster onto plasterboard?
Yes. Always choose green plasterboard — also known as moisture-resistant plasterboard, hydro plasterboard or impregnated gypsum board.
These boards are treated to resist moisture and form a much more stable base for Microcement or Loam plaster.
This prevents problems such as excessive absorption, cracking or delamination — and ensures a strong, durable and flawless final finish.
