Which product works on wood?
Want to create a concrete look on wood using paint? Regular wall paint won’t work on wood, because wall paints are formulated for mineral surfaces and do not adhere well to timber.
But you can create a beautiful concrete effect on wood using Microcement (Beton Ciré). It is durable, hard-wearing and perfect for furniture, tables, cabinet doors and kitchen fronts.
Preparing the wooden surface
Good preparation is the key to a smooth and long-lasting result:
1. Sanding
Sand the wood thoroughly. Any varnish or coating must be removed completely to ensure proper adhesion of the primer.
2. Priming
Use our Microcment fixprimer. This white neutral primer ensures strong adhesion between the wood and Microcement, and prevents wood grain or joints from showing through the final finish.
3. Applying Microcement
Finish the surface using the Microcement Furniture Kit.
This kit includes a technical base layer that creates a stable foundation between the wood and the Microcement.
Seal the surface with two layers of coating, and your project is ready.

Can I apply Concrete effect paint directly onto wood?
No, standard Concrete effect paint or Lime paint is not suitable for wood. These products do not adhere well to wooden surfaces. Choose Microcement with a proper primer instead.
How do I prepare wood for a concrete-look finish?
First, sand the wood thoroughly and remove all varnish and coating layers. Then apply our Fixprimer. After that, you can finish the wood with Microcement.
Is Microcement difficult to apply?
No, Microcement is a ready-to-use plaster that you can apply straight away. Use a trowel to apply the product in thin layers, and use a small brush to finish the corners neatly.
What is the difference between Microcement and Concrete effect paint?
Concrete effect paint mainly provides a visual concrete appearance, a paint layer with subtle colour nuances. Microcement, on the other hand, is a real mortar that offers more depth, texture and a more robust effect. In addition, Microcement is waterproof and much stronger than paint.
Where can I apply Microcement on wood?
On furniture, tabletops, cabinet doors and even kitchen fronts. With the right preparation, the result will remain beautiful and durable for many years.
