Is Microcement waterproof?
Microcement is a pure material with a raw edge. That’s exactly what makes it so attractive. But… it can’t handle a downpour without protection. That’s why you use our Microcement coating: the bodyguard that keeps dirt, wine, water and beauty blunders out.
In bathrooms, behind the cooking area and on furniture that needs to be tougher, we recommend two coats. That way your Microcement can shine every day, without drama.
Our coating consists of component A + B. The two are made for each other, so once mixed, you need to work quickly. Apply within four hours — after that, the party’s over. Apply the second coat after about two hours. A bit later is fine too: you have up to twelve hours. After 24 hours you can use the surface carefully again and after one week your Microcement is fully cured and ready for real life, kids, pets and more.
With one litre of coating you protect around ten square metres. Smart, efficient and effective. And if, after a few years, you fancy a new colour: simply sand lightly (grit 80–120), remove dust and reapply Microcement. Switching from dark to light? Does the coating from betonlook give a shine?
The coating dries to a matte finish. This preserves the natural, calm appearance of Microcement without any shine or plastic look. Exactly as intended.
Does the coating change the colour of Microcement?
Yes, the coating makes the Microcement surface one shade darker. This is a natural part of the finishing process and creates a beautiful, deeper concrete look. The colour remains completely even and keeps its natural appearance, just slightly more intense.
Is the coating suitable for bathrooms, including the shower area?
Yes, the coating is suitable for bathrooms, including shower walls, as long as the full system is applied (primer + Microcement + coating) and the substrate is properly prepared. For the shower floor or extremely wet areas, we recommend paying extra attention to the build-up and preparation.
