Looking for plastering tools?

At betonlookstore.com, you’ll find everything you need for applying and finishing plaster. Whether you’re working with gypsum, Ardex R1C or Microcement, the right tools help you achieve a smooth and professional result.

Applying plaster with gypsum

Start with a notched trowel to apply the gypsum evenly in a 3–4 mm layer.
If you’re right-handed, work from left to right; if you’re left-handed, reverse the direction.
Make sure to do this within 20 minutes, while the gypsum is still workable.

After application, use a straightedge to level the surface.
Wait around 30 minutes and then use our 350 mm trowel to smooth the wall.
Let the gypsum cure thoroughly.

For optimal adhesion, the moisture content of the substrate must not be too high:

• For gypsum: max. 0.5%
• For cement: up to 4%

Use a dehumidifier or moisture meter if needed.

Is the wall dry? Sand it smooth with 120-grit sandpaper. An orbital sander makes this much easier.

Levelling with Ardex R1C

Our Ardex R1C is ideal for levelling interior walls and ceilings. It dries quickly (after 24 hours) and is easy to apply. Mix the compound with the correct amount of water and work in sections, as you have around 30 minutes of working time.

Apply Ardex R1C with a notched trowel and smooth it with our 350 mm trowel.
Still uneven areas? Lightly moisten the surface with a sponge and trowel again.
Once dry, the wall is ready for finishing. Ardex R1C is perfect for humid rooms such as bathrooms, toilets and basements, but also suitable for general plastering work.

Which trowel should I use?

When applying our Microcement, most customers choose the 250 mm trowel.
It fits comfortably in the hand, is flexible and ideal for smooth, flowing movements on walls and floors.

For detailed work, a smaller trowel gives you more control and allows you to create more variation and nuance in the texture.

Working on a large surface? Then a wider trowel is more practical and saves time.
This way, you always choose the right size for your project.
