Is Microcement waterproof?

Microcement is moisture-resistant by nature, which means it’s not fully waterproof on its own. To make our Microcement completely waterproof, we recommend using our specialised Microcement coating. This coating offers numerous benefits, including adding an extra protective layer on top of the Microcement. It prevents moisture from seeping into the plaster and protects against stains. Moisture must first pass through the coating before it can even reach the Microcement. For areas like bathrooms, you can even apply two layers of coating to create an even stronger barrier for your plastered surface.

Protecting Chalk Paint

Our Microcement coating can also be used as a protective layer for Chalk paint. This means you can apply Chalk paint to surfaces like stairs or furniture and still benefit from long-lasting protection. Enjoy the best of both worlds: the beautiful look of Microcement or Chalk paint, combined with the strength of our coating.

Coating coverage

With just 1 litre of Microcement coating, you can cover up to 10 square metres of surface. Thanks to its high coverage rate, you don’t need a lot of product to treat a large area. That makes our coating not only effective but also cost-efficient. A small amount goes a long way, ensuring both protection and a stunning finish that lasts.

Reapplying paint or microcement later on

Have you coated your Microcement surface and want to refresh the colour after a few years? No problem! Simply sand off the coating with grit 80 or 120 sandpaper. Depending on the base colour, you can then apply a new layer of Microcement.

If you’re going from a darker to a lighter colour, we recommend contacting us at info@betonlook.nl for tailored advice. Microcement has a natural concrete-look effect, which means it doesn’t always fully cover the underlying colour. If your base layer is darker than your new coat, it might still show through and of course, that’s something you want to avoid. Our specialists are here to help guide you through the right steps.

Have you used our Microcement coating to protect a surface painted with Chalk paint and want to change the colour? That’s totally possible. In this case, we suggest using finer sandpaper, around 120 or 180 grit, so you only remove the coating, not the paint layer itself. You can then apply two new coats of Chalk paint. We like to keep things simple and flexible for you!

Frequently Asked Questions

Is your coating suitable for bathrooms?

Yes, the Microcement Coating is perfectly suitable for bathrooms, as it makes the microcement waterproof and protects it against moisture and stains.

Is a coating necessary to apply?

In many cases, a coating is essential, especially for microcement, which always requires a protective layer. For other surfaces, it depends on the location and usage. A kitchen wall, for example, can benefit from extra protection against dirt and moisture, or a bathroom wall from splashes and humidity.

How should Microcement Coating be applied?

The Microcement Coating must be applied within 4 hours after mixing components A and B. Make sure your surface is clean and dry before application to ensure optimal adhesion and protection.
