This is how you apply lime paint!

In this video, we explain how to apply lime paint.

Frequently asked questions

What is Lime paint and where can I use it?

Lime paint is a natural paint made from marble powder, water, and lime. It’s often used to give walls and ceilings a unique, matte finish. Thanks to its natural look and feel, Lime Paint complements a wide range of interior styles — from rustic and Mediterranean to Scandinavian, minimalist, vintage, contemporary, and modern.

What is the difference between Lime paint and Concrete effect paint?

Concrete effect paint is mixed to order in your chosen colour. The colour is created using wet pigments, based on a precise recipe from our mixing machine.
Lime paint, on the other hand, comes with a small bag of dry pigments. This is also a recipe, but one we prepare by hand using our own pigment jars. You mix the pigments yourself with a little water before adding them to the paint.

For colours with a small amount of pigment, use a ratio of 50 ml of water per 1 litre of paint. For colours with more pigment, use 100 ml of water per 1 litre of paint. When a recipe contains a high pigment load, it becomes difficult to create a smooth mixture without lumps, so the extra water helps you achieve an even, silky result.

In short: both types of paint create a beautiful, natural finish.

Is it always necessary to use a primer?

Yes, for our Lime paint it’s essential to always use one of our EcoPrimers. While standard paints from DIY stores often require a regular primer, our paints need EcoPrimer instead.
This primer creates a neutral base and ensures that our Lime Paint adheres perfectly to the wall for the best possible result.

Can I clean Lime paint?

No, Lime paint is not resistant to stains and cannot simply be wiped clean. If you’d like to make it washable, we recommend adding Paint Protect. This is a 100% ecological coating made from eggshells that provides extra protection for your Lime Paint. With this coating, you can gently wipe the surface with a slightly damp cloth. Keep in mind, however, that it may add a subtle sheen in natural or artificial light, which can slightly soften the matte finish of the Lime paint.

Microcement or concrete effect paint in the bathroom? These are your options

A modern bathroom with a concrete look appears sleek and timeless. For a durable and waterproof finish, choose Microcement in the bathroom. We’ll explain which products you need and make choosing easy.

Microcement bathroom package
Especially for the bathroom, we have put together complete Microcement bathroom packages. This way, you’re sure you have everything you need and avoid mistakes during preparation. There are two variants: one for the wall and one for the floor.

Microcement wall package
This package includes a primer, two layers of Microcement and two layers of coating. The extra coating provides maximum protection in humid spaces, including the shower. We often get the question: can Microcement be used in the shower? The answer is yes – provided you apply the right preparation and finishing.
Microcement floor package
For the floor, the package includes not only primer, Microcement and coating, but also a technical base layer. This layer forms the intermediary step between the self-levelling floor and the Microcement finish, making your floor extra strong and waterproof. This allows you to create a sleek and low-maintenance bathroom floor in no time.

Betonlook’s bathroom tip:
Planning to apply Microcement in your bathroom yourself? Keep the joints free and don’t apply continuously in one go. Movement can cause cracking at the joints. The solution: neatly finish the joints with Ottoseal S70. This sealant is available in NCS colours, so you’ll always have a perfect match. This keeps your walls looking sleek and your bathroom waterproof.

Cleaning a Microcement bathroom: here’s how
One of the advantages of a Microcement bathroom is that you have no joints that can discolour. Maintenance is therefore much easier. But how do you keep Microcement strong and beautiful?

The steps are simple:

  • Use a squeegee to dry the walls and floor after showering.
  • Clean weekly with our Microcement cleaning product.
  • Give it a monthly boost with the maintenance wax. One cap in a bucket of lukewarm water is enough.

This will keep your bathroom waterproof and sleek.

Extra tip: Be cautious when using silver shampoo and cleaning agents
Microcement handles water just fine, but avoid silver shampoo, rusting containers and aggressive cleaners such as anti-limescale products. Think of it as a strong natural product with a soft side: treat it well and it will stay beautiful for years.

Can concrete effect paint be used in the bathroom?
Yes, but with limitations. Textured paints like Lime paint, Japandi paint, Texture paint and concrete effect paint can be used on bathroom walls, provided you use EcoPrimer coarse.

Important: do not use them in the wet shower area. These paints are more porous and not completely waterproof.
If you want a low-maintenance and easy-to-clean bathroom, always choose Microcement.

Frequently Asked Questions bathroom

Can Microcement also be applied in the shower area?

Yes, it can. It is important that the substrate is properly prepared. Use waterproof tape on the joints and then apply Ardex R1C. Only after that do you finish with Microcement.

Can Microcement be applied over tiles?

No, not directly. First, the tiled wall must be levelled. Check that the tiles are firmly fixed, roughen them with a diamond disc, and then level them with Ardex R1C. This creates a smooth surface for applying Microcement.

Can Microcement be used over underfloor heating in the bathroom?

Yes, it can. It is important to first follow the heating-up protocol. This applies to underfloor heating installed in a cement screed or self-levelling floor. Turn the underfloor heating once to full capacity and then back to the correct temperature. This allows the floor to settle and helps prevent cracks in our Microcement in the future.

Is Microcement in the bathroom a DIY job or better left to a professional?

That depends on your experience. You can apply Microcement yourself using our kits, but it does require precision. A bathroom has many corners, joints, and often a shower area, so the level of difficulty is higher. Want to be sure everything is finished waterproof and neatly? Then it's wise to hire a professional.

How much does Microcement cost per m² in the bathroom?

With us, Microcement costs €42.50 per m². This is the price for two layers of Microcement including protective coating. With this package, you have everything you need to create a strong and waterproof bathroom. If you have it applied by a professional, the cost will be higher. Expect €90 to €130 per m², including materials and labour.

Is a Microcement floor in the bathroom slippery?

No, a Microcement floor in the bathroom is not slippery. The finish is always done with a matt coating. The floor feels similar to a tiled floor, often even more pleasant and warmer. Slipping is no more likely than on a regular tiled floor.

In which colours is Microcement for the bathroom available?

Our standard range includes 49 colours. Is your desired colour not among them? Then we can create any NCS or RAL colour with a minimum order of 20 m². The additional cost is 10%. This ensures there's always a Microcement colour to match your bathroom.
