First, our Clay plaster naturally contains moisture when you apply it. If you apply it to a loose wooden board, the moisture can cause the wood to warp — much like a wooden plank that bends when it gets wet.
Even if you apply Clay plaster to wood that is firmly fixed to a wall, problems can still arise. Clay plaster hardens as it dries, becoming firm and rigid. Wood, on the other hand, is a material that expands and contracts depending on temperature and humidity.
This creates a conflict: our Clay plaster becomes stiff, while the wood continues to move. That movement can cause cracks in the plaster layer or even make it crumble over time.
In short, Clay plaster and wood react very differently to changes in moisture and temperature. Clay plaster is a hard, rigid material that does not move with the natural expansion and contraction of wood.
That’s why it’s best to apply Clay plaster to a stable, solid surface such as concrete. This ensures your Clay plaster finish stays beautiful and durable for years, without problems like cracking or detachment.
