Here’s how to apply microcement
Frequently asked questions about microcement
What is Microcement and what can I use it for?
Microcement from betonlook.nl is a ready-to-use plaster, perfect for immediate application. It’s ideal for creating a minimalist, modern look or a stylish Scandinavian atmosphere. With our Microcement, you can effortlessly bring one of these trends into your living space. Thanks to the special Microcement coating, the material is completely waterproof, making it perfectly suitable for damp areas like shower spaces. The versatility of Microcement makes it suitable for both floors and walls, allowing you to quickly give your interior a fresh new look.
How do I apply Microcement to a surface?
You should always apply Microcement on a smooth surface, such as plaster, cement or water-resistant MDF for tables. Start by applying the Microcement primer for optimal adhesion. Next, apply two layers of Microcement using a 250 mm trowel, with a layer thickness between 0.3 and 0.6 mm. As a final step, apply the Microcement coating, one or two layers depending on the location. For bathrooms, kitchen countertops, tables and floors, we always recommend two layers of coating for optimal protection.
Always follow the manual for precise steps.
Can I apply Microcement to a tiled wall?
Microcement can be applied over a tiled wall, but it does require some preparation. Microcement is applied in a very thin layer of just 0.3 to 0.6 mm. If your surface isn’t even, your product consumption will increase significantly. It’s best to first level the tiles using a polishing disc. After that, you can smooth the wall with a plaster suitable for the specific room. In wet areas, always use a cement-based plaster like Ardex R1C; in dry areas, a gypsum-based plaster is the better choice.
Next, apply the Microcement primer, which allows you to proceed with the two layers of Microcement. Our Microcement is pre-mixed in your chosen colour and ready to use – super convenient!
Looking for a product you can apply directly over tiles? In that case, go for our Chalk paint. With this paint, you only need to degrease the tiles before starting. Once that’s done, you can simply begin painting with the Chalk paint. Want to protect the surface against dirt and damage? Then applying our Microcement coating is the ideal solution.
How do I maintain surfaces finished with Microcement?
We recommend cleaning your Microcement once a week with the Microcement cleaner and once a month with our Microcement maintenance wax. These are nourishing cleaning products for your concrete surface, helping to extend its lifespan.
Can I apply microcement myself, or do I need a professional?
If you're handy and have experience with plastering, it's definitely doable. However, for areas like bathrooms, a technical background is required, and we recommend hiring a professional. Request a quote to have microcement applied, or watch the instruction video here.
